Schiller-Szinessy, Solomon Mayer

   British scholar, of German origin. He was born in Altofen. He had a faculty appointment in Hebrew at Eperjes, where he also served the local community as its rabbi. In 1845 he attacked the Reform resolu-tions brought before the Frankfurt Rabbinical Conference. He was appointed rabbi of Manchester in 1851 and later taught talmudic and rabbinic literature at Cambridge University. His publica-tions include the Catalogue of Hebrew Manuscripts Preserved in the Cambridge University Library.
